Gatsby's Parties - Joey and Jordan

Symbol: Gatsby’s Parties

Meaning: Gatsby’s parties represented the true loneliness in which had felt inside and was also a way to get Daisy, his long lost love to notice him. With every party he had many people attend the shindig, but usually most were just random unknown famous strangers to the Great Gatsby. His parties were a display on how much money he had and a compensation for what he truly desired the warm touch of Daisy.

Quote:

“Dressed up in white flannels I went over to his lawn a little after seven, and wandered around rather ill at ease among swirls and eddies of people I didn’t know—though here and there was a face I had noticed on the commuting train.” (Fitzgerald, Ch 3)

I agree, Because most of the time poeple that are lonely often try to find relief from the pain they feel inside by surronding themselves with friends to cover up the way they truly feel.

I agree, Because lonely people tend to try to hide there feelings by reaching out to something else.

I agree for the most part but Gatsby knew Daisy already so she wasn't some random person. He was trying to compensate for not having her, just not very well.

I agree however Gatsby knew Daisy already, she wasn't some stranger. He also did a poor job compensating for not having her.

I also agree because he didn't even know the people that came to the parties. He also used the parties to show off his money (like Jordan and Joey said) to Daisy for his love.

I partly agree. The parties Gatsby threw were for show, but they were also a reflection of Gatsby's emotional interior. It was a symbol of his loneliness and his deep desire to be accepted by society.

The shindigs were really all pointless to Gatsby as you said all he wanted was for his love Daisy to notice him. I think its funny that it took Nick to come into west egg to finally get Daisy over. Ray 6th

i concur with what they have to say about him having the parties to get Daisy's attention and how he had just random people coming to the party but u got to do what you got to do to get what u want (BG 6th)

So true! You know how if you really like someone and you want them to notice you, you will do things to get that person to notice you.

I think that all of Gatsby's parties are evidence of the increasing deacay of the 1920s American Dreams. Peoples priorities are in the wrong direction. The social behavior was one of the entities that attributed to the wreckless jubilance. The crazy fashions and the wild jazz music were evidence of the changing society.

I like the way you think ;). *laughs* Just kidding. No, but really, I think the whole Gatsby waiting on Daisy idea is true. I guess it could also show how he knows plenty of people but none are true friends?

I liked how you really explained the meaning of your symbol and told your opinion. I agree, Gatsby already knew who Daisy was. It shows who Gatsby really is from the inside, and how he feels.
